FAQ's - Audio Recordings

How does this work, exactly?

Glad you asked! We come to you, record an audio interview, and produce a fully edited digital file (your own personal podcast episode) featuring your stories. We send you a link so you can easily share with family and friends, and also save the file on your computer for your digital family archive.

For example, depending on the type of package you select, we can set up a microphone to interview your grandma at her kitchen table, or two microphones on stands in your living room to interview you and your kindergartner, or go table to table at your wedding - always collecting stories and memories as we go!

Do you edit the recording, or do I have to worry about every "um" and "ah" I say?

No worries! Your final product will be edited for everyone's listening pleasure, with unnecessary words and extraneous information taken out.

Will I need to be "on camera?"

Nope! It's strictly an audio format. We record you talking, and then edit the audio into a podcast style interview.

How will I know what to talk about?

Our interviewer will you lead you through a series of customized questions. It's like a nice, long chat you'd have around the kitchen table or a campfire!

Where does the interview take place? Will I need to figure out any new technology?

We prefer to come to you and conduct interviews in-person, where you're most comfortable. A nice quiet spot at home, sitting at a table or on a couch, is generally best.

For other packages, like a wedding or celebration of life, we can either set up at a stationary spot or walk around to interview your guests. For the audio baby book, we can work together to figure out what works best. (Likely one or two in-person interviews, plus remote online calls.)

FAQ's - Events

How much space do you need?

We can set up a stationary space or be roving through the event with a microphone in hand - or both for different time frames of the event.

For example, at a wedding set up a stationary recording space during the cocktail hour, but be roving during dinner and dancing.

At a celebration of life, we can adapt on the fly to whatever works best in both the physical space and the emotional landscape.

FAQ's - Scrapbook or Photo Album Digital Conversion

How does it work?

Depending on the project, we'll digitize your photo album or scrapbook how it is best preserved. For example, if you have a photo album from the 90's, we can carefully remove photos, scan, replace photos in their sleeves, and then print a hard cover photo book. If for example you have a more delicate scrapbook from the 1940's that can't be taken apart, we would scan or photograph images and reassemble pages in a digital format.

Can I get extra copies?

Of course! We will work together to figure out what end product works best for your needs and budget. Whether that's simply digital file for you to decide what to do with later, or a hardcover printed book for every member of the family, or something in between.

What types of sources do you use?

At Farrington Street Archives, we have lots of experience digging back through history to rediscover family stories. Using historic newspapers, online genealogical databases, your family records, and other sources specific to your family's geographic or social background, we can put together the puzzle pieces to help you understand your family's unique history.
